UN: Syria sanction vetoed by Russia,China
Russia and China on Thursday vetoed a U.S.-backed U.N. Security Council
resolution that would impose sanctions against Syria's
President Bashar al-Assad if he does not end the use of heavy weapons. Syrian government sanctions the
four months of diplomacy aimed at stemming a crisis that has left more
than 14,000 dead, vote came a day after anti-government rebels
bombed a meeting of top Syrian security officials, wherein three official
aides to President Bashar al-Assad died and government shelling continues in

time in nine months that Russia and China have used their powers as
permanent members of the 15-nation council to vetoed resolutions on
Syria. Nations 11 votes in favor, Russia and China against and two
abstentions.
