FICCI welcomed the Union Budget

Industry bodies FICCI  today welcomed the Union Budget presented by Finance minister P. Chidambaram. FICCI President Naina Lal Kidwai termed the measures announced in the budget as responsible and well managed. She also lauded efforts to contain the current account deficit and announcements on tax free bonds to energize the Road and Highway sector.  Adi Godjrej termed the Union budget as development oriented, aims at inclusive growth.  Godrej  further adds  Chidambaram has contain the fiscal deficit to 5.2 per cent in the current fiscal and measures to lower it down to 4.2 per cent in the next fiscal. Sexual harassment at Workplace Bill passed by Parliament Parliament passed a bill under which cases of sexual harassment at workplace, including against domestic help, will have to be disposed of by in-house committees within a period of 90 days failing which penalty of Rs 50,000 would be imposed. Repeated non-compliance of the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Bill, can lead to higher penalties and even cancellation of licence or registration to conduct business. Egypt hot air balloon crash kills 19 Asian, European tourists Posted on February 27, 2013 by sagarmedia At least 19 people, mostly Asian and European tourists, were killed on Tuesday when a hot air balloon caught fire and crashed near the southern historic Egyptian city of Luxor. The hot air balloon carrying 21 people caught fire mid-air before crashing to the ground, General Mamdough Khaled, director of security for Luxor Governate said in a statement. Luxor International Hospital received 19 badly burned bodies, Khaled said. The balloon was operated by a company named Sky Cruise, state-run news agency reported. Ahmed Aboud, who runs another balloon company, was quoted by the media as saying that gas tanks ignited the balloon about 1,000 feet. Two people survived, a tourist and the pilot, Aboud said. Dot: Auction of 800 Mhz Spectrum Dot: Auction of 800 Mhz Spectrum to Commence on 11.03.2013 Auction of 1800, 900 & 800 MHz spectrum was scheduled to begin on March 11, 2013. The last date for receipt of applications was 25.2.2013. At the time of close on the last date for receipt of applications i.e., 25.2.2013, one applicant, namely, SSTL registered for the auction of 800 MHz spectrum and no applicants registered for the auction of 1800 & 900 MHz spectrum. 1800 & 900 MHz bands were to be auctioned simultaneously starting from March 11, 2013 and the 800 MHz band auction was to commence 2 days after the conclusion of the auction of 1800 & 900 MHz spectrum. In the light of these developments, the auction of 800 MHz spectrum will commence on 11.3.2013 itself. Guidelines for Granting Licences to Start Private Banks February 27, 2013 The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has finalized guidelines for granting licences to start banks in private sector. Vide its Press Release dated 22.02.2013, the RBI has released its “Guidelines for Licences of New Banks in the Private Sector”. Key features of the guidelines include eligible promoters; ‘fit and proper’ criteria; corporate structure of the Non-Operative Financial Holding Company (NOHFC); minimum voting equity capital requirements for bank and shareholding by NOHFC; regulatory framework; foreign shareholding in the bank; corporate governance of NOHFC; prudential norms for the NOHFC; exposure norms; business plan for the bank; other conditions for the bank and additional conditions for NBFCs promoting / converting into a bank.
