Have you ever heard of an advent wreath? The so-called "Adventskranz" is another cherished symbol of the month before Christmas.
An advent wreath is usually made of pine boughs woven table-top with the four Advent candles. Some families even make their own wreaths, even though they are a popular item at Christmas markets as well. Each Sunday, a new candle is lit while the family sits together, enjoys homemade Christmas cookies and sings carols.
Today, we light the third candle!

Our advent special this year: for the next four weeks, we want to introduce you to Austrian traditions during Advent. Advent means "arrival" in Latin and is used as a term for the period of four weeks before Christmas. It is a time we like to spend with our families and friends while preparing for Christmas.
