Russian President Vladimir Putin said, Russia and Japan should
cooperate to stop poaching, smuggling and other problems in his
country's Far East.He told Japanese Foreign Minister Koichiro Gemba that an ongoing
territorial dispute on Russian-held islands claimed
by Japan off Hokkaido should not prevent the countries from working
together.Putin who met Gemba in the southern Russian resort of Sochi on July 28th.

He suggested that foreign and vice foreign ministers meet to hammer out a peace treaty.Putin responded that Russia is ready to explore a solution.
