Consumption tax bills enacted in Japan diet
Six smaller opposition parties challenged the legislation by submitting a
no-confidence motion against the Noda Cabinet. The motion was voted
down in the Lower House on Thursday and thus pave way for Consumption tax bills to be enacted in Japan diet.
Noda secured the two parties' backing, in return for a pledge to dissolve the Lower House and call a snap general election "soon" after the bills are enacted. The Liberal Democratic Party is demanding a dissolution before the current Diet session ends on September 8. But Noda is not saying when he might do this.
