Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour 2016 – Leg 2

Vani claims back to back titles in Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, 14 January 2016: Vani Kapoor carded 1 over 73 in final round to win the second leg of the Hero Women’s Professional Golf Tour at the Kalhaar Blues & Greens here on Thursday. This is Vani’s second consecutive title in as many events. Kiran Matharu finished runner-up with a total score of 216. The INR 7,00,000 event culminated today.
Hero Order of Merit leader Vani Kapoor started impressively, carding three birdies on the 1st, 5thand 7th holes while dropping a shot on the 3rd. However, she could not sustain the momentum in the latter half, dropping four shots on the 10th, 11th, 12th and 17th holes, but a birdie on the 15th proved vital for her to secure a single shot victory over Kiran Matharu. She finished with a total score of 215 after 54 holes.
Overseas player Kiran Matharu carded 2 under 70, the only sub-par score of the round, to finish second with a total score of level par 216. She had a shaky start and carded a bogey on the 3rd hole. Thereafter, she composed herself and carded two birdies on the 6th and 10th holes along with an eagle on the 12th to put herself in contention for the title. She added another birdie on the 17th hole, but two consecutive bogies on the 14th and 15th meant that she had to settle for a second place finish.
Panchkula’s Amandeep Drall carded an even par 72 on the second consecutive day to take the third position. Her round included four birdies on the 5th, 10th, 16th and 18th holes with two bogies on the 3rd and 17th. She also had a double bogey on the 9th hole to finish with a total score of 218 after the final round.
Kapurthala golfer Gursimar Badwal returned with a card 5 over 77 in the final round to finish fourth. She carded two birdies on the 1st and 14th holes, while dropping shots on the 2nd, 4th, 9th, 10th, 15th, 16th and 17th to finish with a total score of 227 after the final round.
Delhi’s Ankita Tiwana finished fifth with a total score of 231, followed by Kolkata’s Smriti Mehra (232) and Chandigarh’s Saaniya Sharma (234) in sixth and seventh place respectively.
From the city of Ahmedabad, the Tour now moves to the historic Royal Calcutta Golf Club, Kolkata for the third leg to be played from 2nd to 5th February.
