Jun 1
Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today launched a BIS App for complaint registration which will allow consumers to register complaints regarding sub-standard quality of ISI marked products or Hallmarked jewelry.
Briefing reporters in New Delhi on completion of one year of NDA government, Mr Paswan said operation of godowns under Food Corporation of India (FCI) has been made online to increase transparency in the functioning of the corporation. He said NDA government’s priority is to bring Food Security Act into operation to curb corruption. He added, end-to-end computerization of FCI operations will bring further transparency in the system and stem corruption.
Mr Paswan said government has decided to continue food grain allocation for other welfare schemes for the poor. Saying that food grains older than a year and a half are not kept in the godowns, the Minister said 20 lakh tonnes storage capacity is being added.
Highlighting the achievements of his Ministry, Mr Paswan said import duty on sugar was first increased from 15 to 25 per cent and then to 40 per cent to facilitate payment of sugarcane arrears. He said norms for procurement of wheat have been relaxed to give relief to the farmers affected by unseasonal rains. Anti-minority remarks by Sangh Pariwar leaders uncalled for: PM Modi

Jun 1
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asserted that his government had succeeded in ushering in acche din–good days–for the country during its one year in office. In an interview to a news agency, he however, regretted that the opposition is trying to belittle the work done by his government.
The Prime Minister described some anti-minority comments made by Sangh Pariwar leaders as uncalled for. Mr Modi asserted that he will not tolerate any discrimination or violence against any community. He said, country’s Constitution guarantees religious freedom to every citizen which is not negotiable.
On the Opposition’s aggressive campaign against the Land acquisition Bill, Mr Modi said criticism against the legislation was politically motivated. He maintained that the changes made by his government corrected serious flaws in the earlier bill.
Expressing satisfaction over the performance of his government, he said there were neither any charges of corruption against the government nor any scandals. Mr Modi said that one year ago when the UPA was in power, large scale corruption at various levels of government gave rise to scams on a regular basis.
On the sharp reaction by political parties to his speeches during his overseas visits, Mr Modi said, the Congress was under the impression that nobody abroad knew about the scams which took place when it was in power. He rubbished the Opposition charge that his was a pro-corporate, anti-farmer and anti-poor government.
Asked why he did not visit Pakistan despite his promise to improve ties with neighbouring countries, he said his only expectation from Islamabad is that it will walk on the path of peace and non-violence and there is no other problem.
To a suggestion that there was a disconnect between the government and the BJP, the Prime Minister asserted that the government is working in complete harmony with the party as well as with the people of the country.
