May 2013 CPI inflation at 9.31 %

(Rural India inflation declined to 8.98% in May 2013 as compared to 9.16% in April 2013 and urban India inflation declined to 9.65% in May 2013 as against 9.73% in April 2013)

The all India general CPI (Combined) for May 2013 stands at 9.31% as compared to 9.39% for the previous month of April 2013. The inflation rates for rural and urban areas for May 2013 are 8.98% and 9.65% respectively as compared to 9.16% and 9.73% respectively, for April 2013.

Rate of inflation during May 2013 is high in cereals and products at 16.29%, egg, meat & fish at 12.52%, food and beverages at 10.65%, vegetables at 9.78%, pulses and products at 9.59%, sugar at 9.21%, condiments and spices at 6.52% and oils and fats at 5.49%.

Consumer Price Index for the month of May 2013 for rural, urban and combined stood at 129.8, 128.4 and 129.2 respectively.

General Consumer Price Index (combined) is highest in the state of Meghalaya at 137.6, followed by Tamil Nadu at 133.9, Karnataka at 133.8, Puducherry at 130.9, Kerela at 130.3, West Bengal & Jharkhand at 130.2. The index stood lowest in Manipur at 116.4.
