CAV Inter College, Uttar Pradesh loses keenly contested final by 20 runs

New Delhi, April 30^th: Taking full advantage of playing at home , the team from New Delhi’s Salwan Boys School played a fine game of cricket to get the better of CAV Inter College, Uttar Pradesh and lift the prestigious U-16 Coca-Cola Cricket Cup 2013, at the Jamia Milia University Ground in New Delhi today.

The New Delhi school won the toss and chose to bat first. Even though opener Shivam Chauhan’s early wicket gave CAV a good start, the batsmen from Salwan soon showed that they were in no mood to let go of the game. Nitin Tanwar scored a commendable 47, giving his team much needed support but missed his half-century by just 3 runs. Rajesh Tangri who scored 40 runs for the team supported Tanwar. The duo’s partnership of 79 runs gave the team the foundation they needed to put up a promising total on the board. Thanks to Kaif Ahmed’s blistering 88 in 64 balls with three sixes and four boundaries, Salwan was in a strong position to win the match. Amar Choudhary’s 3 for 50 in 10 overs limited the Salwan escapade to 241 runs.

In return, the boys from CAV Inter College started well but lost 3 valuable wickets by the time they touched 91 at the end of 26.3 overs. Displaying talent deserving praise, Rahul Sharma scored 77 runs while Vipin Kumar made 40 runs for the team and were top run getters. The school lost another 5 wickets by the time it reached 195 and was able to put up a score of 221 in 50 overs. Prashant Vashisth’s 3-wicket haul and Kaif Ahmed’s 88 powered Salwan’s victory in the final. Ahmed was a deserving Man of the Match. 

Coca-Cola U16 Cricket Cup winners Salwan Boys, New Delhi were awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1lakh and winner’s trophy, while the runners-up CAV Inter College, UP were awarded Rs 70,000 and Trophy. Nitin Tanwar was adjudged as Player of the tournament, Amar Choudhary, the best bowler and Kaif Ahmed, the best batsman for the overall series of the U-16 Inter-State leg of Coca-Cola Cricket Cup 2013
