FY2013 food grain production at 255
million tonnes
India is
estimated to produce 255.36 million tonnes of food
grains during 2012-13 as compared to 259.32 million tonnes during
2011-12. The foodgrain production during 2012-13 is
the second highest production ever achieved despite low and erratic rains in
many parts of the country during the monsoon season. The total production of
rice in the country is estimated at 104.22 million tonnes during
2012-13 as against 105.31 million tonnes during
2011-12. Production of wheat is estimated at 93.62
million tonnes during 2012-13 as compared with 94.88 million tomes
during the corresponding period of previous year. The production of pulses is
estimated at 18 million tonnes during 2012-13 as against 17.09
million tonnes in 2011-12 and cotton production at 33.8 million bales in
2012-13 as against 35.2 million bales in 2011-12. The production of sugarcane
estimated at 336.14 million tonnes in 2012-13 as compared to 361.03
million tonnes in 2011-12.
