Overwhelmed over people’s response, Team Anna ready for next round in Uttar Pradesh
This
year assembly election in Uttar Pradesh has brought all new and good
experience for the people of the State. Unlike previous elections, when
only political parties used to campaign during elections, Team Anna has
been campaigning for awareness among the citizens of the State.
“It is nice to see members of Team Anna among us. It
is an all learning experience. Time has come when we should ask
politicians about their preferences before supporting them,” said
Abhishek, a college student at Balia.
Interestingly, Team Anna is getting tremendous response, wherever
they are visiting. “Whether an introduction of strong law like Jan
Lokpal will stop corruption in the country including Uttar Pradesh,
where people are going to elect a new government or mere a change in
government will solve the problem. All political parties are silent on
the issue of Jan Lokpal bill during their respective election campaign
in UP,” said Mukesh Rai, a teacher at a private school in Basti.
Team Anna members, who have been touring in
different parts of Uttar Pradesh with a fervent appeal to voters to
understand the strength of their franchise and cast their ballots in
favour of honest and responsible candidates, are surprised with the way
leaders of all political parties are confusing the electorates on such
an important issue. “Like earlier elections, one political party is
blaming others for the corruption and claiming that the change of power
will solve the problem. Team Anna is of the opinion that if strong Jan
Lokpal will be there, whoever will come into power, law will take care
of everything,” said Ramavtar Yadav, a local resident.
Members of Team Anna, who have been witnessing
tremendous response everywhere, urban as well as rural region of Uttar
Pradesh, have been emphasising that the leaders coming to electorates
for seeking their votes should be asked as to when the Lokpal bill would
be passed. “Are their any provisions of speedy and independent
investigation against corrupt politicians and babus in Lokpal bill? Is
there any provision of strong punishment in the government Lokpal bill?”
these questions need to be asked to politicians before casting votes in
anyone’s favour.
Members of team Anna have been asking the people to
take a vow that they will not back candidates making false promises but
support those who are answerable to them in future.
Team Anna has addressed five big public meetings including former Prime
Minister’s Chandrashekhar’s important Balia constituency till now. They
have also covered constituencies of Basti, Gonda, Faizabad and Barabanki
in the first phase.
Interestingly, despite the fact that most of the
individuals have been supporting or associated with one or the other
political party, people have been participating in large numbers to
listen Team Anna and they don’t mind sparing long hours with the members
of India Against Corruption.
Team Anna has been asking voters to understand the
price of their votes and not waste them on considerations of caste,
religion, money and relationship.
