The modernization process in the Railways will be put on fast track with
the signing of two agreements between Ircon International Limited and
Rail Land Development Authority, RLDA today. Among other things, they
provide for better amenities to passengers and development of stations
as commerce, entertainment and social space. Talking to media after the
agreements were signed, Railways Minister Dinesh Trivedi said, initially
some identified stations with infrastructure of well designed and high
quality waiting spaces, easy access and congestion free platforms, will
be developed.
The Minister said that redeveloped stations will be friendly to physically challenged persons. He made it clear that there would be no compromise with the security and safety of the passengers. Mr. Trivedi said that heritage look of the stations will also be maintained.
