Pranab tells opposition, retail FDI decision on hold

Pranab tells opposition, retail FDI decision on hold- Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee told opposition leaders, including Sushma Swaraj and Sitaram Yechury, that the decision on allowing FDI in retail was being put on hold and a final decision will be taken only after consulting all parties.Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee is likely to make a statement in Parliament conveying govt's mind in the matter in the wake of stiff resistance from opposition and some UPA allies.
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday talked to BJP Parliamentary Party Chairman LK Advani and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj conveying the views of the Government on FDI and was requested that it convey its views at an all-party meeting.
BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad confirmed news reports that Mr Mukherjee had telephonic conversations with the leaders.
Prasad said the BJP leader in turn wanted smooth functioning of Parliament and hence said the Government take a position on the demand of political parties.Media agencies
