Kim Jong il, dies
Kim Jong Il, North Korea's most revered leader, has died. He was 69.
Kim's death was announced Monday by state television from the North
Korean capital, Pyongyang.North Korea to make a "special" broadcast at
noon Monday, its state television and radio said, without giving any
further details.North Korean leader Kim Jong-il died on December 17,
2011, state television reported on December 19, 2011
Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said the leader “passed away from a
great mental and physical strain” at 8:30 am on Saturday (2330 GMT
Friday), while on a train for one of his “field guidance” tours.
“All party members, military men and the public should faithfully follow
the leadership of comrade Kim Jong-Un and protect and further
strengthen the unified front of the party, military and the public,”
said the news agency and a weeping TV announcer.North Korea declared a
period of national mourning from December 17 to 29.
North Korea aired special broadcasts in the past when leader Kim Jong-Il
was re-elected as the chairman of the powerful National Defense
Commission. His father, North Korean founder Kim Il Sung, died in
