Sushma Swaraj visiting Myanmar
External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj today called on Myanmar President U Win Myint at Nay Pyi Taw in Myanmar. External Affairs Minister is on a two-day visit to Myanmar for discussions on a number of bilateral and regional issues.
Mrs Swaraj was warmly received by India’s Ambassador Vikram Misri and Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar U Myint Thu. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson, Raveesh Kumar said, seven agreements are expected to be signed during the visit.
Myanmar is one of India’s strategic neighbours and it shares a 1,640 km border with a number of northeastern states.
Hasina received the call from Sushma around 9:45pm on Thursday, the Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Nazrul Islam told media.
“India’s position is same as Bangladesh’s over the Rohingya issue,” Nazrul quoted Sushma as telling Hasina during the phone call.
“She also spoke about India pushing Myanmar both bilaterally and multilaterally so that they take back their refugees,” Nazrul said.
“What India is saying is that Myanmar must stop atrocities against Rohingyas,” he added. Indian High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla, after handing over 53 tonnes of relief material for the Rohingya refugees to Bangladesh authorities, said his country would stand by Bangladesh’s side over the issue.
Many in Bangladesh suggest that Dhaka step up diplomacy to have India and China mount pressure on Myanmar to take back the refugees.
But earlier in the day, Myanmar News Agency in a report quoted Hong Liang, the Chinese ambassador in Myanmar, as saying, “The stance of China regarding the terrorist attacks in Rakhine is clear, it is just an internal affair; the counterattacks of Myanmar security forces against extremist terrorists and the government’s undertakings to provide assistance to the people are strongly welcomed.”
Around 400,000 Rohingyas fleeing the ongoing army crackdown against the group have joined as many refugees in Bangladesh.
Prime Minister Hasina said she would raise the Rohingya issue at the UN General Assembly currently under way in New York.
AungSanSuuKyi reaches Delhi, will call on President and meet PM Modi, MEA Sushma Swaraj.
UN Security Council has called on Myanmar to speed up efforts to ensure the safe return of the Rohingya and to hold accountable perpetrators of attacks against the Muslim minority.
The statement followed a fact-finding mission by the council’s ambassadors to Myanmar and Bangladesh from 28th April to 1st May to get a firsthand look at the crisis from the forced exodus of 700,000 Rohingya from Myanmar.
Council members said that in light of the importance of undertaking transparent investigations into allegations of human rights abuses and violations, urge the government of Myanmar to fulfil, based on respect for the rule of law, its stated commitment to holding accountable perpetrators of violence.
The council also urged Myanmar to step up its efforts to create conditions conducive to the safe, voluntary, and dignified return of Rohingya refugees to their homes in Rakhine state.
National Technology Day being celebrated
National Technology Day is being celebrated in the country today. On this day in 1998, India successfully tested its nuclear bombs in Pokhran, Rajasthan. Remembering the Pokhran Nuclear test in his recent Mann ki Baat programme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said, Lord Buddha had shown the world that the power of inner strength is necessary for peace.
In reference to the 20th anniversary of Pokhran Test this year, Mr Modi asked the younger generations to imbibe the mantra of Jai-Vigyan given by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for enhancing the might and the power of India, to build a modern India, a powerful India and a self-reliant India.
In a series of tweets, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has talked about the 1998 tests in detail. She dedicated the National Technology Day to country’s scientists, technicians and leadership who made India a nuclear weapon state. India conducted five underground nuclear tests at Pokhran test range in Rajasthan, on 11th and 13th of May in 1998.
The tests were conducted under the leadership of Former President Dr A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, who was then DRDO Chief, and Dr R Chidambaran, then Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission. A team of more than 100 scientists, technicians and soldiers were involved in the successfully conducted tests.
EU: Iranian strikes against Israel ‘extremely worrying’
European Union called reports about Iranian strikes against Israeli army posts from inside Syria “extremely worrying” and said Israel had the right to defend itself.
It also called on all regional actors to show restraint and avoid any escalation.
“Reports about last night’s Iranian attacks against Israeli army posts from inside Syria, to which Israel responded by striking against Iranian targets in Syria, are extremely worrying,” said a spokeswoman for the bloc’s foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Modi said India and Nepal will work towards building ‘Ramayan’ circuit between both the countries. He said this will act as the foundation for strong people to people contact between the two nations. He thanked his Nepalese counterpart K P Sharma Oli for accompanying him during this visit to Janakpur.
He also paid a visit to Janaki temple earlier and offered special prayers. Mr Modi is also going to address a civic reception in a short while from now. The Prime Minister reached Janakpur this morning on a two-day visit to the Himalayan nation.
He was received by Defence Minister of Nepal Ishwor Pokhral, Chief Minister of Province two, and Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri.

This is Mr Modi’s third visit to Nepal as Prime Minister. In his departure statement prior to the visit, Mr Modi said, the visit reflects the high priority that India attaches to the age-old, close and friendly ties with the Himalayan Nation.
He said these high-level and regular interactions reflect his government’s commitment to the ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, in consonance with the motto of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. Mr Modi stated that India will continue to remain a steadfast partner of the neighbouring country to implement its vision of ‘Samriddha Nepal, Sukhi Nepali’.
Abe and Li to promote infrastructure
Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe says the country aims to work closely with China in responding to growing demand for infrastructure in Asian countries.
Abe was speaking on Thursday at a welcome party for Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at a Tokyo hotel, hosted by Japanese business organizations. Li was visiting Japan for the first time since taking office in 2013.
Abe said he agreed with Li during their talks the previous day to set up a forum for bringing together the 2 nations’ public and private sectors with the aim of responding to the huge demand for infrastructure in Asia.
Abe said he believes both countries stand to gain more from cooperating with each other than competing for overseas infrastructure projects.
Li called for active participation by Japanese firms in China’s Belt and Road economic initiative, which covers Asia, Africa and Europe. He said China wants to deepen pragmatic cooperation with Japan so the 2 countries’ development strategies can be linked effectively.

He added that he wants to promote bilateral financial cooperation and ways to increase private-sector investment opportunities between them.

Li added that frequent reciprocal visits by the 2 nations’ leaders will help deepen bilateral economic ties.
47 dead after dam bursts in Kenya
Heavy rain is forecast to continue over the next few weeks, leading to fear that the flooding could get worse. Kenyan authorities say at least 47 people died after weeks of torrential rain caused a dam to collapse on Wednesday night.
The “sea of water” from the dam in the western town of Solai tore into 2 villages.
The reservoir was used for agriculture and fish cultivation.
Many people were reportedly asleep at the time. Almost half of the dead are said to be children.
Residents are working to rescue people buried under mud. They are also clearing away debris and farm produce.
Israel airstrikes Syria,Iranian attacks Golan Heights
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Iran had crossed a “red line” by firing rockets at Israeli forces from Syria, leading to major Israeli air strikes on Thursday in the neighbouring country.
“Iran has crossed a red line. Our reaction was a consequence,” the Israeli leader said in a video posted on social media.
“The Israeli army carried out an extensive attack against Iranian targets in Syria.”
Iran has not claimed responsibility for the rocket fire.
Israel carried out widespread deadly raids against what it said were Iranian targets in Syria after rocket fire towards its forces which it blamed on Iran, marking a sharp escalation between the two enemies.
Israel said 20 rockets, either Fajr or Grad type, were fired from Syria at its forces in the occupied Golan Heights at around midnight.
It blamed the rocket fire on Iran’s Quds force, adding that Israel’s anti-missile system intercepted four while the rest did not land in its territory.
No Israelis were wounded.
“We are in a prolonged campaign and our policy is clear: We will not allow Iran to establish itself militarily in Syria,” Netanyahu said.
Israel launched air strikes on military installations in neighboring Syria on Thursday, killing at least 23 people.Israel says the attacks were retaliation for about 20 rockets it claims were fired into the Golan Heights by Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guard Corps deployed in Syria.
The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the Israeli strikes reached a wide area, including the vicinity of Damascus, the southern province of Quneitra and the central province of Homs. Iran’s military installations were among the targets, along with those of the Shia Muslim group Hezbollah and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces. Israel is reportedly alarmed by Iran’s increasing military presence in Syria and has repeatedly targeted Iranian installations there.
The reported Iranian attacks in the Golan Heights were the first since the United States announced its withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal.
Concerns are growing that the US pullout may deepen the conflict between Israel and Iran in Syria.
UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric told reporters on Thursday that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres was following the situation with utmost concern.
He noted that the UN Disengagement Observer Force, or UNDOF, has maintained contact with forces from both sides.
Dujarric said Guterres urged an immediate halt to all hostile acts and provocative actions to avoid a new conflagration in the region, which is already embroiled in “terrible conflicts with immense suffering of civilians.”

Demolition Drive in Delhi is UGLIEST City Improvement Option
May11, 2018 (C) Ravinder Singh ravinderinvent@gmail.com
Delhi is world’s Most Unplanned and Worst Managed City in the world – though top Civil Servants opt for Delhi based Centre Government so come from regions of the country. Politicians too come from many regions around Delhi – find Delhi to be million times better than their native places – ARE RESISTING TO CHANGE.
FIND NOTHING WRONG IN SLUMS, JAMS, HIGH COST OF COMMODITIES, MISMANAGED TRANSPORT, LAW & ORDER, PARENTS TESTED FOR SCHOOL ADMISSIONS, VENDORS, STINKING FRUITS & VEGETABLE SUPPLY, GARBAGE MOUNTAINS, SEWAGE IN RIVERS & DRAINS, WATER SHORTAGES, ROADS TOO NARROW FOR TRAFFIC & THAT TOO LARGELY USED FOR PARKING, FOUR WHEELER REGISTRATION UNRESTRICTED, AMBULANCES PREFER TO TAKE DISCHARGED PATIENTS OR VICTIMS TO HOME THAN IN CRITICAL NEED.
Abuse of RENT LAWS – worst in world WAS ADDED INCENTIVE TO NO CHANGE Attitude – A person may be paying Rs.100 PM rent than Rs.10,00,000 Current Market Rent. I found Multi-Level Hotels on Mud Brick made Ground Floor in old Delhi when Arjun Guest House Collapsed.
Worst of RENT LAWS was SUB-DIVISION OF TENANCY – A Shop in 1950 may have 20 SUB-DIVISIONS or PORTIONS or CLAIMANTS today. THIS RESTRICTED BUYING & SELLING OF COMMERCIAL PROPERTY WHEN OWNERS RIGHTS WERE ‘LIMITED’ ADDED TO STINK – Even business not making profit would continue to pay paltry rent than vacate it.
Demolition Drive in Delhi UGLIEST City Improvement Option
When DLF developed Hauz Khas six decades ago – it had no idea thatDelhi would expand 20 times in population, 1000 Times in GDP.Against few thousand cars – has over 3 million cars – over 10m automobiles.
Hauz Khas market as per DLF Approved Plan has 80% Residential and 20% Commercial & Shopping layout. THERE WAS NO NEED FOR EVEN THIS – SHOPS REMAINED VACANT FOR DECADES – BUT PRESENTLY 50 TIMES MORE SPACE IS OCCUPIED FOR COMMERCIAL USE YET IT & BPO NEEDS ARE MET BY GUGAON or NOIDA.
Even after each Market Plot has Doubled Floor Area – but now Residential space is not even 20%, against present Commercial Space within market – 5 Times more Commercial Space is Occupied in Roadside Homes.
Hauz Khas Market need be DEMOLISHED & REBUILD – 3-4 TIMES MORE COMMERICAL AREA – 8-10 LEVEL BUILDING WITH 20 Feet Stilts & Basement Parking Ready by 2020 – Re-Locate all Businesses to New Hauz Khas Market.

Delhi Confused Miss TECH EXPERT – 200 Ambulances AIIMS
May10, 2018 (C) Ravinder Singh ravinderinvent@gmail.com
Delhi is totally CONFUSED in the absence of TECH-EXPERT – there are over 200 may be 400 Ambulances Parked around AIIMS in 1km radius – Not to Serve Critical Accident Victims or Patients but >>
Ø Take Home SURVIVED & TREATED ACCIDENT VICTIMS & PATIENTS back home.
Delhi can’t decide whether Deep Water Table is Good For Building & Structures or Shallow Water Table is desired –.
When water table goes deep in Punjab or Gujarat it is matter of grave concern – Primary water source in the states is depleting and Surface water source is UNRELIABLE.
Yesterday there was Story on Water Table Going Down – is Good For RCC Building Structures, Basements, yet Trees are Green & Growing – Signs of HEALTHY growth.
Today we see stories of SEALING of Tube-wells and Ground Water Re-Charge – Storage of Water in Yamuna Dams is 1000 TIMES CHEAP, BETTER, RELIABLE & CLEAN.
Sealing Drive is on to raze down illegal SHOPS but there is no regulation. Hauz Khas has 10 times more SALONS & SPAs than required yet more are coming up – this month I paid Rs.150 for 10m Haircut 50% more than April.
Simple Haircut to an average household cost much more than ELECTRICITY BILL.
Politically there is no one to defend SUPREME COURT orders – No body is telling ‘YOU CAN DO 10 TIMES MORE BUSINESS FROM SAME SPACE & HOME DELIVER GOODS – WHEN THERE IS SHOPPING REGULATIONS.’
There is no Check on Illegal Parking on Main Roads and In Front of Shops. Rs.5000 minimum fine for wrong Parking on Main Roads and Rs.2000 in inner roads be enforced. At Green Park Metro Station Trucks & Cars are WRONGLY PARKED ALL DAY & NIGHT.
Malls are coming up when Delhi need De-Centralize WHOLESALE MARKETS.
Problem with malls is that CUSTOMERS COME IN CARS – SPEND HOURS TO BUY A THING OR NOTHING – A WHOLESALE MARKET INSTEAD MAY HOME-DELIVER IN 2 KM RADIUS.
UBERIZATION of AMBULANCES & BUSES, MINIBUSES, SHARED TAXIS – AUTOS, & INTEGRATE PUBLIC TRANSPORT – E-RICKS for METRO LAST MILE CONNECTIVITY ARE ESSENTIAL TO MAKE DELHI SMART. Admissions to Schools within Colony – Staggered Office Timings, IT & BPO Centers in Delhi itself, 24hr Potable Water & 10 New Railway Stations are Urgent Needs.

CAIT RAISES EYE BROWS TO WALMART FLIPKART DEAL
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) will closely study the metrics of Walmart-Flipkart deal and will move to the Government or appropriate Authority to seek a ban on the deal till the time all related issues are resolved satisfactorily. Its not an ordinary deal between two companies but certain important issues concerning FDI policy, data security, competition, unfair practices etc. have been involved. Since the deal has a greater ramification on India’s retail trade, a closer scrutiny is certainly warranted-said the CAIT.
CAIT Secretary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal said that key issues of the matter is whoever controls the platform control data and digital intelligence. Therefore, being the controller of the Company, the Walmart may use the data and other information as per its will & wish and the possibility of compromising the data can not be ruled out. Second important aspect is that the Owner can squeeze and dictate anything and as such being the virtual owner, the Walmart will always be in a position to dictate its terms and conditions.Thirdly, it is much more difficult for the Govt to control & regulate foreign owned platforms particularly in e commerce sector which has no boundaries.
Another factor which needs to be taken into account is the situation where a major player controls production to inventory management, marketplace to logistics, payments and delivery and control all this through global controls on data and digital intelligence. It is more vulnerable when there is no policy for e commerce and neither a Regulatory Authority to control & regulate the market.
The Walmart-Flipkart deal is nothing but in long run a clear attempt to control & dominate the much potential retail trade of India by Walmart through e commerce which is only a bridge to reach out to offline retail market of India.
Mr. Khandelwal has demanded that Government should immediately frame a national policy for e commerce and constitute a Regulatory Authority to regulate and e commerce business in India and till such time, the deal should be put in abeyance by the Government and a close scrutiny should be held in the entire deal.
