Team “The Interceptors V2.0 from Dr.D.Y.Patil institute of Technology, Pune adjudged runner up and second runner up team “Amrita Racing”  from Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore

New Delhi, July 9, 2016: The 5th edition of SUPRA SAEINDIA, India’s biggest formula student competition generated much excitement and built to a thrilling last lap climax at the Formula 1 track, Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida, with Team “Kratos Racing” from P.C. College of Engineering emerging victorious.  Team “The Interceptors V2.0” from Dr. D.Y. Patil Institute of Technology emerged as the runner up and team “Amrita Racing” from Amrita School of Engineering bagging the second runner up position. The best woman participant award went to Ms.Davindrvjit Kaur from GDEC College while team “AIOUS formula student” from IGIT walked away with the trophy for the team with the maximum number of women participants. 

The valedictory session was graced by Chief Guest, Dr David Schutt, CEO, SAE International and Guest of Honor, Mr. C.V. Raman, Executive Director, Engineering, Maruti Suzuki India Limited.  Other guests at the session included Mr. R.S.Kalsi (executive director, Marketing and sales, MSIL), Mr. Aravind Bharadwaj (SAE India President) Mr. Narain Karthikeyan, the first Indian Formula 1 driver, visited SUPRA 2016 on July 8th, the penultimate day of the event, to interact with the student community and share his experiences.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prashant K. Banerjee Dy. Executive Director (Technical) Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM)said, “SUPRA 2016 has been a phenomenal experience, not only for the participating students, but also for the judges, organizers and all those involved in making the event a roaring success. The student teams have demonstrated exceptional skill and have the potential to add tremendous value to the Indian automotive industry.”  
Mr. R S Kalsi, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. said, “Maruti Suzuki has always been focusing on strengthening its connect with the youth to shape and encourage their skills in automotive technology. Through our association with SAE INDIA we are giving these budding engineers a platform to follow their passion for automobiles. We are confident this exposure will enhance the passion for modern technology in the minds of young engineers in the Industry and prepare them for creating innovative ideas & handle challenging assignments. India is poised to be the 3rd largest automotive nation by 2020 and events like this will definitely help in strengthening the engineering talent pool of the country.”


Organized annually by SAEINDIA, SUPRA is a platform for students to apply their engineering skills to design and construct a Formula category vehicle as per defined performance and safety specifications.  SUPRA SAEINDIA 2016 held over five days, from July 5th, 2016 to July 9th, 2016drew a record number of participants this year, with over 3500 engineering students from 125 teams participating.

The event was judged by a panel comprising 200 eminent experts from the automotive industry, including four international experts – Mr. Benjamin Moeller, Mr. Christian Thomas Amersbach, Mr. Christoph Martin Beisswanger from Germany and Ms. Anastasia Potrashkova from Russia.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited is the title sponsor of SUPRA India 2016, continuing to support the event for the fifth consecutive year.  Other sponsors include TOTAL, BPCL, Castrol, Shell, AVL, Siemens, Altair, Ansys, MRF, CEAT, GKN, HORIBA, ELEATION, DASSAULT SYSTEMS, Hindustan University, Tripti Hospitality, Continental and Viper Hobbies.
