Pakistan today rejected reports that a Pakistani fishing boat, said to be carrying explosives, was intercepted by the Indian Coast Guard off the coast of Gujarat and the vessel exploded before sinking along with four occupants.

Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam categorically denied the reports that said that the incident occurred on the night between December 31 and January 1, some 365 km off the coast of Porbander, generating strong speculation that it was reminiscent of the 2008 Mumbai terror strikes. According to PTI, Mrs. Tasnim told the media that no boat from Karachi had gone to the open seas.

Inspector General of Coast Guard Kuldip Singh Sheoran today said that surveillance and patrolling have been increased on the entire coastline.

This has been done after the Coast Guard intercepted a suspected Pakistani boat carrying explosives in India waters.
Talking to reporters in New Delhi this morning, Mr Sheoran said, the matter is being investigated by the intelligence agencies.

He said, the entire Gujarat Coast is on surveillance and six to seven aircraft are continuously monitoring it.

The Coast Guard had intercepted a suspected fishing boat carrying explosives in the Arabian Sea.

The boat was intercepted near the Indo-Pak maritime boundary, about 365 km from Porbander.
