AP municipal polls: TDP ahead in Seemandhra, YSRCP at heels

TDP appeared to be ahead and was being trailed by YSRCP in the results of municipal body polls in the Seemandhra region where Congress has fared poorly so far, as per information available till afternoon.
TDP has bagged the Elamanchili and Narsipatnam municipalities in Visakhapatnam district and was successful in the Parvathipuram, Saluru and Vizianagaram municipalities in Vizianagaram district while YSRCP bagged the Bobbili municipality. TDP and YSRCP won two municipalities each in Srikakulam district.
Besides, TDP emerged victorious in Palakonda and Palasa-Kasibugga, while YSRCP won Itchapuram and Amadalavalasa municipalities.
In Kadapa, the native district of YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, his party swept the Kadapa municipal corporation while TDP bagged Proddatur, Badwel, Jammalamadugu and Mydukur municipalities.
As per information coming in, Congress has fared poorly in these civic body polls in the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.
In the Telangana region though, Congress emerged victorious in three municipalities in Medak, the native district of TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao, while three municipalities threw up hung verdicts.
Among 20 wards in Gajwel municipality of Medak district, from where the TRS chief contested the recent Assembly polls, TDP won 10 and TRS bagged nine wards. Congress managed to secure only one ward.
TRS is expected to take the support of the Congress candidate to bag the post of municipal chairman in Gajwel.
The vote of the elected MLA would be crucial as the ex-officio member. Elections were held for 145 nagar panchayats and municipalities and 10 municipal corporations in Andhra Pradesh on 30th March.
