The quake was registered near Mugla resort at 15.45 pm local time and was originally estimated by Kandilli Observatory as an earthquake of magnitude 6.1.The epicenter was at a depth of 19.6 kilometers. The tremor lasted about 30 seconds and caused panic. Many residents living in southwestern Turkey flee their homes in a hurry. A number of hotels in the popular Mediterranean resort cities Antalya and Mugla evacuated tourists.
According to Mugla and Antalya authorities, no causalities are reported.
59 people sought medical attention including 54 people in the resort town of Fethiye, head of the local health department said.He added that six people were injured after jumping from windows and balconies, one got serious injures and two were hospitalized with heart attack.
