Lalit Modi row: VK Singh defends PM, says he need not react to everything : Speaking on  criticism over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence on the Lalit Modi controversy, Union Minister V K Singh on Monday said it is not necessary for the Prime Minister to react to everything and he will speak when the right time comes. "Why do you want to force upon him that he should speak and speak? It is not appropriate to react to everything. If a news channel is running something, is it right on the part of the Prime Minister to speak on that? When the right time will come, the Prime Minister will speak," Singh said. In reply to a question that the Ministry of External Affairs has not responded to an RTI query on Lalit Modi, he said RTI has some rules and the Ministry must have given answer in accordance with that. "Those who have to criticise, will do it anyways. So there is no need to talk about that because often unnecessary things are blown out of proportion. ...

Moderate earthquake jolts several States of Eastern India Jun 28 A moderate earthquake jolted several States of Eastern India, including Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim and West Bengal this morning. Official sources said, epicenter of the 5.6 magnitude quake was Kokrajhar in Assam. Chief Executive Officer of Assam Disaster Management Authority , P K Tiwari said that two vendors sustained injuries in Kokrajhar district when an old railway wall collapsed in the tremor. But their conditions are not serious. In another incident, gate of a religious place was partially damaged at Basugaon. Meanwhile, government officials urged people not to pay attention to rumors following the earthquake.

49 insurgents killed in Afghan military op over last 24 hours A series of anti-terrorist military operations have led to the killing of 49 insurgents in the past 24 hours, Afghan Defense Ministry told Xinhua news agency. The joint operation was spearheaded by Afghan National Army (ANA).  "49 armed insurgents have been killed, numbers of were wounded, some weapon and ammunition confiscated, numbers of various IED bombs discovered and destroyed,"  Defense Ministry said in their statement.
