Vodafone, Airtel win spectrum; Govt gets Rs 61,162 crore Updated on : 24-02-2014 08:07 AM Vodafone Group and Bharti Airtel won critical wireless telecom spectrum in metros like Delhi and Mumbai and several other cities in an intensely fought 10- day auction that gave the government over Rs 61,162 crore, far exceeding its own target. Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Jio Infocomm, which surprised by entering the fray despite owing pan-India 4G spectrum, bid aggressively for both the bands of airwaves on offer - the premium 900 Mega-Hertz and not so efficient 1,800 MHz, but choose spectrum only in the later band in 14 out of 22 circles. Vodafone, whose license in Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata is due to expire in November this year and desperately needed spectrum in the auction to continue operations, put in bids worth Rs 19,600 crore to win 900 MHz airwave in the three metros and 2G 1800 MHz spectrum in 11 circles or zones. Airtel, whose licenses in Delhi and Kolkatta...
Dear All,   Moody’s pegs India’s growth rate at 4.8% in Q3   Lower economic growth, volatile exchange rates, rising borrowing costs, tighter lending and monetary conditions and slow economic reforms have dampened prospects across many sectors   According to Moody’s Investors Service, the overall outlook for India 's non-financial corporates in 2014 is negative due to the country's weak economy, political uncertainty and the expected gradual scale back of quantitative easing by the US Federal Reserve.  At this juncture, Moody’s Analytics pegs India ’s GDP growth at 4.8% in the third quarter of the current financial year.   It may be mentioned that during the recent budget speech on Interim Budget 2014-15, our honorable Finance Minister, P.Chidambaram anticipated that growth in Q3 and Q4 of 2013-14 will be at least 5.2%.   Moody’s also reported that India 's GDP growth should remain weak at 5.5% in the fiscal year ...

Sochi Olympics concludes Updated on : 24-02-2014 10:29 AM Flushed with pride after a spectacular showing at the costliest Olympics ever, Russia celebrates 17 days of sport-driven global unity on Sunday night with a farewell show that hands off the Winter Games to their next host, Pyeongchang in South Korea. The closing ceremony, a farewell from Russia with love, pageantry and protocol, starts at 20:14 local time precisely a nod to the year that President Vladimir Putin seized upon to remake Russia's image with the Olympics' power to wow and concentrate global attention and massive resources.  Its $51 billion investment, topping even Beijing's estimated $40 billion layout for the 2008 Summer Games, transformed a decaying resort town on the Black Sea into a household name. All-new facilities, unthinkable in the Soviet era of drab shoddiness, showcased how far Russia has come in the two decades since it turned its back on communism.  But the Olym...
