  India Unites for Non – Violence and Harmony, a non-political, citizen led initiative organized a campaign in Mumbai from January 23- 30, 2019 to commemorate the 71st anniversary of Gandhiji’s martyrdom. Various civil society organizations, academics and activists came together on the anniversary of Gandhiji’s martyrdom to appeal to the nation to resist and confront the growing culture of violence facing the country. Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead on January 30, 1948 at 17:17 hours as he headed towards a multi-faith prayer meeting. He was assassinated by fundamentalist forces opposed to his idea of Swaraj promoting nation-building on the principles of equality of all citizens, Hindu -Muslim unity and communal harmony. Gandhi's Swaraj focussed on the composite nature of Indian nationalism. India’s Foreign Trade : January 2019 Merchandise exports and imports grew by 4% and 0.01% respectively      Merchandise Trade Exports Imports India’s Exports in January 2019 were USD 26 Billion, as compared to USD 25 Billion in January 2018, exhibiting a positive growth of 4%. In Rupee terms, exports were Rs. 1,86,453 Crore in January 2019, as compared to Rs. 1,61,697 Crore in January 2018, registering a positive growth of 15%.       Cumulative value of exports for the period April-January 2018-19 was USD 272 Billion (Rs.18,98,359 Crore) as against USD 248 Billion (Rs.15,98,312 Crore)  registering a positive growth of 10%  in Dollar terms  and 19% in Rupee terms  over the same period last year.
