cid:3AFF6751-06E4-4274-9CCB-F0EE47AFFCFE
DR NARINDER DHRUV BATRA AMONGST OFFICIAL CANDIDATES FOR FIH PRESIDENT
The Hockey India President looks at this as an opportunity to bring in fresh ideas that could bring a positive change to world hockey

New Delhi, 7 September 2016: Hockey India President Dr Narinder Dhruv Batra, who is also an Executive Board Member of FIH since 2014 and Vice President of the Asian Hockey Federation, is now also one of the final three candidates for the election for the post of FIH President.
The elections for the FIH President’s post will be held at the FIH Congress on 12th November 2016 as the incumbent President Leandro Negre finishes his 8 years as President of FIH.
The other candidates who are running for the FIH President post includes:
1. David Balbirnie                (Ireland)
2. Ken Read                          (Australia)
Since his involvement with Hockey India as Treasurer in 2009 and then it’s Secretary General in 2010 followed by the top job as its President in 2014, Dr Batra has created a system that has brought professionalism to the sport and is responsible for bringing revolutionary changes in Hockey India which is evident in the recent upswing in the national teams performances and the quality of hockey events which are being played in India.
Dr. Batra a former hockey player has been actively involved in hockey administration over the past two decades and since then is on a mission to take world hockey to greater echelons. He set the precedence with the introduction of the Hockey India League (HIL) in 2013 where top-class players from across the globe showcase their skills in India in the month long tournament. The model has been successful in getting the right kind of exposure for India players, garnering interest from corporate sponsors and increasing the viewership and fan following for hockey in India as well as globally. The league has successfully completed four editions and has set a benchmark for other non-cricketing sports in India.
Dr Batra is also responsible for successfully hosting several key global FIH events in India starting from the Men’s World Cup in 2010 in which 12 international teams participated. Hockey India, under his leadership, also organized the Olympic Qualifiers in India in February 2012 for both men and women, where the Indian Men team qualified for Olympics after a gap of eight years. India has also hosted the FIH World League Round 2, 2013 (men and women), FIH Junior Men World Cup 2013, FIH World League Final (men) 2014, FIH Champions Trophy (men) 2014, FIH World League Round 2 (women) 2015, FIH World League Final (men) 2015. Currently India looks forward to hosting the Junior Men’s World Cup in December 2016. The ability to be involved in and deliver on several international FIH events as well as building a strong international hockey league with HIL gives him the right kind of experience to be able to take on a role requiring grit and vision.
“Hockey India has recommended by name and I have filed my nomination with an aim to serve the sport that I am deeply passionate about. I feel there is more that we can do at a global level to garner the kind of support hockey requires and deserves. I would see this opportunity to bring in fresh ideas that could change the way the sport is positioned and perceived world over.” stated Dr Narinder Batra.
As the Hockey India President, Dr Batra has taken a keen interest in developing hockey at the grassroots and has revived more than 50 tournaments for men and women in the domestic circuit which are now being organized on an annual basis. FIH has earlier recognized his efforts in developing hockey by being awarded the FIH Presidents Award in 2014.

I will run out of a lifesaving medicine in a month’s time

I will run out of a lifesaving medicine in a month’s time. I am not alone. Sign my petition and help 1 lakh patients like me get access to this medicine.

Dear Sagar Media Inc,
I am facing a life-and-death situation.
My name is Namitha and I am just like you. Except for the fact that I have Thalassemia- a rare blood disorder.
Over 1 lakh Thalassemia patients like me depend on a life saving medicine called Desferal. For a year, we have faced an on-off supply of this drug.
Sagar Media Inc, I need your help to save my life. Sign my petition and ask the Health Minister to ensure that we have regular access to the lifesaving drug, Desferal.
Only one drug company Novartis manufactures Desferal. I have no idea why they are creating this situation and why there is a shortage.
I will run out of medicine in one month’s time. If yousign this petition now, you can make the Health Minister take action and that can help save my life.
Sagar Media Inc, people’s lives are at stake. Sign this petitionand ask the Health Minister to bear upon Novartis to immediately release sufficient supply to all patients in India.
Thank you for your support,
