The government is abusing anti-extremism laws that were established to combat hate crimes to persecute artists, independent media, LGBT groups, and other parts of civil society. Now Russian legislators are planning to fine people who link to "extremist" materials online. The government will no doubt use this new authority to target critics. The world is waking up to the growing repression, but more needs to be done to protect freedom of expression, religion, and association in Russia. Join our call to end the crackdown on civil society in Russia.
